Leo Pors (Rotterdam, 1952) has been active as a painter since 1985, initially painting landscapes mainly in oil paint. As a self-taught artist, he follows a school of trial and error, but by reading a lot about techniques, delving into the literature and occasionally receiving instructions from colleagues, the work grows and gains strength and color.

In the mid-1990s, a change in style occurred in the painter's work. From that moment on he concentrated on painting still lifes in a very realistic style. Everyday utensils, but also objects from past centuries, are depicted on the panels with almost photographic accuracy. In the backgrounds there is the almost imperceptible transition from dark to light and the texture of the painted objects is generally praised. In addition, the natural treatment of the light makes many people wonder whether we are really dealing with paintings here. to do, or with photos.

It is with these still lifes that the painter made his definitive breakthrough and grew into a much sought-after artist. Photos of his paintings appeared in art magazines and the still lifes found their way all over the world. In England his work is sold by renowned galleries, but also in Lithuania, Italy, Portugal, Germany, and indeed almost all European countries, collectors have his work in their possession. The paintings are also represented in various corporate collections. His work has also been purchased by private art lovers in Hong Kong, Taiwan, the United States of America and Australia. In the USA, the Ende Museum (Pennsylvania) has several works by the painter in its collection.

In the June 2020 issue of the Art magazine VIND, a six-page article, with photos, was published about the work of this artist.

The Gorcums museum recently held the exhibition "Deceptively real", in which, in addition to the work of Ans Markus and Tjalf Sparnaaij, work by this artist was also represented.
