2-day workshop Monochrome Model
At the request of our enthusiastic students, Wencke Vinks will give a 2-day workshop 'Monochrome portrait painting with oil paint' from a live model on Wednesday 1 and 8 March 2023. You can use this technique as a detailed underpainting for a portrait in oil paint, but because the result often reflects a beautiful atmosphere in itself, it can also be used for a full-fledged painting, regardless of which genre you choose.
Structure of the workshop

This 2 day workshop will consist of painting a live model alla prima in monochrome tones.

Day 1: The workshop starts with a brief explanation of the technology where Wencke Vinks will give a demo in which the technology is explained in detail. In the afternoon you will work to get a feel for the technique and focus on painting a living model.

Between day 1 and day 2, Wencke also provides exercises for home use. (this is optional but useful to do)

Day 2: We start again with a blank canvas and work towards a fully detailed portrait of our model. Wencke will help you with this and give short instructions.
The structure of this workshop consists of the following points:
-
preparing the panel, plotting the composition.
-
Monochrome tone study made in one color 'family'.
-
With this study we only have to focus on tone, drawing and composition without worrying about color.
-
Learning to build a painting transparently
-
The advantage of this technique is that you can easily correct and therefore experiment more (which is very useful when painting a live model).
Who is the Monochrome Model workshop for?

The 2-day workshop is open to all levels.
If you have rarely or never painted from a live model, this workshop is definitely for you
This technique is also recommended for advanced users because you can concentrate on what a brush can do and how you can use it in a varied way.
