Academic Portrait training 30 lessons (90 hours)

Marco Krauwinkel gives Academic Portrait, from September 2023 to May 2024.
He applies his own Academic Portrait teaching method and will personally guide the participants during the 30 lessons. Some theory will also be discussed in these lessons.

Structure of the lessons

In the first 5 lessons we will mainly deal with geometric figures. First draw, then paint in black and white. Form and tone are the foundation of any academic work. We will then enlarge and paint the eye and nose, and life paint the Asaro head.

For the next 5 lessons we will start by preparing the painting panel/canvas with a gray middle tone, and laying out a grid on the panel/canvas.

 

We will put the previously photographed model in a grisaille underpainting and then we will paint over the underpainting in color for the last 20 lessons and work towards the end result.

 

We also delve into mixing the palette and applying the right colors. This will also be treated step by step and methodically, and will be explained by means of a presentation, and short demonstrations will also be given in between. 

 

Each subsequent lesson follows logically from the previous one, so that a clear structure and good understanding of the technique is created.

Participants receive personal constructive criticism, as well as a detailed explanation. 
The lessons are given in Dutch (possibly supplemented with English).

Who is the 30-part Academic Portrait course for?

For both beginners and advanced users.

​

Academic portrait is a 30-week course. The academic portrait lessons include all the facets you need to create a classic portrait at an academic level! The following points are discussed in the academic portrait course:

 

• Basic theory, color theory, anatomy

• 5 lessons Basic drawing

• 5 lessons mouth, eye, nose painting, in grisaille underpainting (black and white)

• 5 anatomy lessons, division of the Asaro head

• 10 lessons of full portrait painting including hands in grisaille and then color.

• Academic portrait ends with a certificate of participation

The cost for 30 lessons of Academic portrait is € 1750, including coffee/tea materials.
