5-day Masterclass Johannes Vermeer

Vermeer's working method, structure and use of color will be applied as far as possible in the production of the painting ''Writing woman in yellow dress''

Structure of the Masterclass

 

Before this masterclass, a short lecture will be given regarding the painting and its origins. The lecture will be given by Drs. Mrs. Cornelissen-Baas.

 

Marco Krauwinkel will then provide technical explanations about the structure and use of color prior to painting. A grid method is used to set up the painting, which is an excellent tool for getting the exact proportions on the canvas.

Writing woman in yellow dress will first be placed on the canvas in an underpainting (death painting) with burnt umber, then we will further develop the painting in color using Vermeer's color palette.

Glazing techniques are also applied later in the process to create a beautiful atmosphere in the background.

For participants who would like to become familiar with 17th century painting techniques such as those used by Johannes Vermeer.

Cost

The 5-day masterclass is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.mincluding all materials, lunch, tea and coffee. It is therefore not necessary to bring your own materials for the Masterclass, such as canvas, paint brushes, etc.

The costs are €725, including VAT (excluding any overnight costs)
